Understanding Lesson Study for Mathematics: A Practical Guide for Improving Teaching and Learning
After 3 years of work, we are excited to announce that our book will be published on July 23rd 2020!
Using the latest research, our book provides an insight into how learning in mathematics can be improved through a lesson study approach. Through studying ten lessons in depth, this highly practical resource explores the research and theory that underpins lesson study, and shows the significant impact it can have on teacher development.
Most of the chapters involve trainee teachers, teaching colleagues and schools within the University of Manchester partnership. Chapter 9 “Sustaining argument about randomness” is based on a coin tossing lesson that our maths PGCE trainees experience as part of our course at Manchester University. Another chapter to highlight is chapter 2 “Perimeter and mastery” which focuses on an anchor task used with a year 7 class developed in partnership with tutors from the University and teachers from a partner school.
